Trend Link and Trend Historian are OPC Historical Data Access (OPC-HDA) compatible with the latest release of version 5.2

The OPC-HDA interfacing standard allows users to select the best software components available for their application. Users can easily mix and match historian servers and client tools for specific needs from different venders.

The latest release of Trend Link and Trend Historian version 5.2 software components provide OPC-HDA compatibility — an open standard interface to allow historical data access. This allows manufacturers the freedom to pick and choose the best server and client tools for their specific needs.

Trend Historian — OPC-HDA Server with unrivaled performance
The high performance Trend Historian has a small footprint and is simple to use for single node applications or can handle the data load for an entire plant. It can handle large amounts of data efficiently in applications of hundreds of tags with sub-second logging frequencies or thousands of tags with lesser frequencies. It can store over 91,000 TVQ updates (time, value, quality) per second on a typical PC running Windows NT or 2000 while retrieving data at 273,000 TVQ's/sec locally and 91,000 TVQ's/sec for remote PCs on the network. The retrieval rates and storage rates are unrivaled for historians available today. The system overhead requirements are small compared to competing systems.

The OPC-HDA standard allows easy connections to data tools and responsive performance. Since Canary products are now OPC-HDA compliant, HDA clients from other venders can be added to provide additional solutions such as reporting and other relevant tools.

Trend Link — OPC-HDA Client with rich features while easy to use
Trend Link is an ActiveX control that can be embedded into many HMI packages, Visual Basic applications, and other containers such as web browsers. It is very easy to use yet flexible to handle a wide variety of viewing preferences.

Trend Link can also be used in the Windows Terminal Server environment or have Internet access to data via a Web server that embeds a Terminal Services Advanced Client (TSAC) ActiveX control in Internet Explorer.

Enhancements on this version include OPC-HDA client facilities, XY scatter charts, and a statistics page.

The trending components of the HMI's are very weak in comparison to Trend Link. Most people do not know the features they are missing and the ease of use until they compare Trend Link.

The scaleability of the Trend Historian and Trend Link products make them very attractive for small users to plant-wide implementations. The Trend Historian starts at 75 tags and can be upgraded to unlimited tags while Trend Link is offered as Basic and Pro versions.
