Siemens Enterprise Networksrgy & Automation, Inc., has introduced version 3.0 of DB4Web, a unique high-performance software interface that integrates multiple data sources regardless of the operating system (e.g. Unix or Windows NT) and displays the merged information on a web page.

DB4Web 3.0 pulls data from Oracle, Informix, SAP R/2 or R/3, MySQL, SESAM SQL, ADABAS C, ODBC, DB2, EDAPI, and object-oriented data sources. The data management is transparent to the user, as the Web application server reads and writes in original sources.

DB4Web can save users significant software licensing and upgrading fees, and increase their operating efficiencies by allowing remote access to information on pricing, inventory, plant operations, finance, and other areas of the business.

Consequently, DB4Web facilitates e-commerce by quickly processing orders entered on a company's Web site directly back to the appropriate systems involved in the fulfillment process. Communication between the browser and Web server is done through HTTP. DB4Web employs standards such as TCP/IP, RPC, SQL, HTML, IIOP and HTTP, and can be run on any server.

Equipped with the CORBA4Web module, DB4Web breaks down the language barrier between object-oriented and relational data. CORBA4Web acts as a generic interface to any CORBA server. No knowledge of C++ or Java is needed.

CORBA (Common Object Request Broker Architecture) facilitates communication between distributed objects in heterogeneous networks, meaning it can access the entire profile of information on a subject without knowing the specific identifier or code normally necessary to gain such access. A script language with object-oriented features is used to access a CORBA server.
