Pöyry Completes EPC Assignment For The Fuel Handling System Of A CFB Technology Power Plant In The Philippines

(GLOBE NEWSWIRE) - Consulting and EPC company Pöyry recently received the Final Acceptance Certificate from Panay Energy Development Corporation (PEDC) for completing the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction assignment for the fuel handling system of PEDC's 150 MW circulating fluidized bed (CFB) technology power plant expansion project, located in Panay Island, Iloilo, Philippines.

The assignment consisted of the design, procurement, and construction, and commissioning of the power plant's fuel handling system. The fuel handling system, using Pöyry's unique and transparent EPC Plus Open Book System Methodology, consists of a jetty extension, conveying system from the jetty to the coal storage building, the conveying system from the coal storage building to the crusher building and the construction of an 80,000-ton capacity coal handling storage building.

The 150 MW expansion plant is owned and operated by PEDC, a subsidiary of Global Business Power Corporation which is one of the leading energy companies in the Philippines. It shall supply power to Panay Island as well as throughout the Visayas grid and significantly contribute to the region's progress.

Pöyry delivered the project on time, to the quality required, and well below the budget.

"Executing the project on an EPC Open Book System was a good decision, making way for an all-win situation," said Peter Heinzelmann, Senior Vice President, Project Management, Pöyry. "The cost efficient methodology used in building the power plant will make way for lower power costs, for the benefit of consumers and end-users," he added.
