Find Solutions for Manufacturers while Using Digital Transformation (DX) to Avoid the “Three Cs”
OMRON Corporation (HQ: Shimogyo-ku, Kyoto; President and CEO: Yoshihito Yamada), on August 28, will commence a virtual tour to its AUTOMATION CENTER (ATC), a factory automation (FA) technology center where customers join with OMRON to find solutions to their manufacturing issues. Allowing customers from around the world to view on their computers the virtual content that features facilities and demonstration machines at the flagship AUTOMATION CENTER TOKYO (ATC-TOKYO), the largest*1 of 37 ATCs across the globe, this new service gives global customers the most realistic experiences of OMRON's state-of-the-art FA technology anytime, anywhere. By using digital transformation (DX), OMRON is capable of accelerating its unique solutions without the "three Cs," namely, closed spaces, crowded places, and close-contact settings, thus safely contributing to solutions to customers' issues on the production floor.
At ATCs, customers can witness manufacturing developments made possible by innovative-Automation, OMRON's unique manufacturing innovation concept that facilitates solutions to issues that occur on the production floor. Together with teams of manufacturing specialists, including members from OMRON's development function and ATC experts, customers can collaborate on creating solutions. Customers are invited to test for themselves customized solutions to issues that they encounter on production floors, which tap into not only AI, IoT, robotics, and other cutting-edge technologies but also innovative technologies and applications created through an optimal combination of OMRON's more than 200,000 different types of control devices. In the seminar room, customers can also avail themselves of technical training, which they may need upon receiving devices of their choice.
As part of its initiatives to prevent the further spread of COVID-19, OMRON has created a 3D walkthrough video of the virtual ATC-TOKYO. Customers can go on a 360-degree virtual tour to ATC-TOKYO as if they are walking around the facility and watch videos of demonstration machines on OMRON's solutions to their specific issues. If they wish, they can also take a physical tour to an ATC or have a remote experience of "demonstration/verification" and "technology training" processes - two of the key functions of ATCs - as they watch how machines move online. There are plans to offer the virtual tour in English and Chinese as well so that customers from across the globe who find it difficult to travel to Japan can also have the sensational experience of ATC-TOKYO.
Amid the major transition on production floors, manufacturing businesses are being challenged by the rapid changes in customer needs, including the need to avoid the 3Cs and automate manual operation in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19, as well as the ongoing shift toward low-volume, high-mix production and shortages of skilled workers. At the same time, AI, IoT, robotics, and other technological innovations are accelerating the advancement of seeds. In an effort to help its customers to innovate their production floors amid these changes, OMRON takes the innovative-Automation approach to offer new values by realizing a hybrid DX that achieves an optimal blend of in-person, remote, and virtual solutions, thus teaming up with its valued customers to find solutions to their issues.
