Network 3000 Automation and SCADA System - Overview

Field Proven Solid Technology Bristol Babcock's Network 3000 products have been field-proven through many years of operation in demanding installations, including compressor stations, filter consoles, metering stations, offshore platforms, plant floors, pump stations, and well heads. While Network 3000 has an excellent track record, we are committed to continually enhancing the line with new technology and ensuring the enhancements are backward-compatible with existing, installed products. Instead of becoming obsolete, these products can be kept current and continue to meet the evolving needs of our users. Products that fit your application and budget Network 3000 is built around a strong line of distributed process Controllers, RTU's and Flow Computers. From the smallest field site to the largest plant process, our 33XX products satisfy every Automation and SCADA need in the industry. These products are fully programmable in our ACCOL II modular, measurement & control language and are compatible with a broad range of communication media and protocols.

Open System software Recognizing the importance of open software standards to today's engineers and managers, we offer Windows 95/98/NT based tools and utilities that allow virtually any third party host or GUI to interface to Network 3000 products. Applying such standards as OPC, DDE and ODBD along with our OpenBSI communication Utilities means you have control in your choice of software. In addition, Bristol Babcock offers our own Open Enterprise SCADA host system with a powerful real-time and historical relational database for the perfect combination of price and performance.

Local and Wide Area Networks
Network 3000 products are currently operating in systems using such wide area network (WAN) media as dial-up telephone, cellular telephone, private/leased lines, microwave, radio (including spread spectrum) and satellite/VSAT. They are also operating with local area network (LAN) media, including RS 232, RS 485, and IP Ethernet, and fiber optics.

Since all 33XX products have multiple serial ports, it is easy to implement a mixed-media network, e.g. one which uses radio on one link, leased lines on another, microwave on another, etc.

Standard Hierarchical Network
Our standard networking protocol, BSAP, is a non-proprietary, ISO-standard protocol with capabilities not available in other protocols. Unlike the other protocols, which limit you to flat networks, BSAP allows a multi-level network with 33XX products acting as information pass-through nodes. This makes it easy to arrange the network in a hierarchical fashion, according to geographical districts or regions. Remote "sub-networks" can be configured with a supervisory PC for each. Operators at remote PC's, as well as the system-wide SCADA host, all have access to the same alarms, live variables and historical information.

Third-party Protocols
Network 3000 products include numerous protocols in addition to BSAP. The most common protocols are standard in firmware and many others are optional. Network 3000 products are currently operating with protocols such as IP, Allen-Bradley, Adept, Enron Modbus, HP 48000, Modbus RTU and ASCII, Teledyne-Geotech and more. This capability allows a 33XX product to act as a protocol converter that interfaces devices such as chromatographs and smart transmitters to the SCADA network. It also allows 33XX products to "drop-in" to existing systems, even though they don't use our BSAP protocol. With many suppliers discontinuing their RTU lines, it's good to know that 33XX products are available when you need to add RTU's to your current system.
