Motorola to Deploy Paperless MES Solution

While the promise of the paperless shop floor has been touted for two decades, it may soon be realized at two Motorola manufacturing facilities.

Motorola's Systems Solutions Group (SSG) and Satellite Communications Group (SCG) are in the process of implementing Information Based Technology's (iBASEt, Lake Forest, Calif.) paperless manufacturing execution systems (pMES).

According to Scot Grant, manager of the Information Technology Manufacturing Systems organization for the Systems Solutions Group, Motorola evaluated numerous potential MES providers during its initial literature search.

Although iBASEt's paperless MES solution, Shopfloor 2000, is a native Microsoft Windows and Oracle RDBMS client/server environment, it can also be configured to operate in an X-Windows server environment. Legacy interfaces to IMS and DB2 can be integrated using RDBMS gateways and custom dynamic linking libraries (.dll files) that interface Shopfloor 2000 to other systems such as optical storage or product data management systems.

Motorola, a global leader in advanced electronic systems and services, began the pMES implementation in January at two Arizona facilities.
