Control Technology has released the Model 2703AP module, a significantly upgraded CPU for its popular 2700 series of automation controllers.

The 2703AP features the following:

  • increased speed: controller programs run 8 - 14 times faster in the new CPU than in the previously available model
  • expanded capacity for larger programs, larger data tables and more concurrent tasks
  • registration inputs for advanced, high-speed registration applications

Customer-driven benchmark testing in the field has demonstrated that the new Model 2703 CPU processes Quickstep(TM), CTC's programming language, 8-14 times faster than the previously available model. The new CPU supports up to 4096 programming steps in 64K of program space, up to 56 multitasks, and has 4000 additional non-volatile registers. Two on-board RS-232 ports eliminate the need for an additional comm card in many applications.

The new CPU also has enhanced, faster encoder handling for advanced, high-speed motion control. An on-board quadrature encoder channel makes the 2703AP ideal for high-speed encoder counting applications, while two high-speed registration inputs enable the user to trap the encoder channel's position based on machine events.
