Del-Tron Precision Inc.F-1 differential micrometer head can be mounted to linear slides or stages or the company's model 99 series subminiature multiaxis positioners using a finely threaded barrel behind the moving positioning spindle. It provides very accurate possible positioning of cameras, lenses, mirrors, part locators, end stops and other devices requiring ultra precision alignment. The positioner is suitable for precision laboratory instruments, optical devices and production machinery.

Coarse adjustment is accomplished using a knurled ring operating a 40-pitch screw that moves the spindle 0.025 inch per revolution. Fine adjustment of 0.004 inch per revolution is accomplished with an adjusting thimble located at the rear of the device. The spindle has a hardened ball at its end to reduce friction and wear. The adjusting differential is accomplished by the use of internal rings threaded inside and out. The spindle is locked to the innermost ring, producing a gear reduction effect that translates gross movements at the thimble into fine movements at the spindle.
