Manufacturer Chooses DCSI and Intermec for Real-Time Access to Critical Data

Elkay Manufacturing Company selected Data Collection Systems Incorporated (DCSI) to integrate wireless data collection tools from Intermec Technologies Corp. with its PeopleSoft ERP applications.

Elkay, a Chicago-based manufacturer of sinks, faucets, water coolers and cabinets, chose DCSI's Data Collection Advantage software to facilitate automatic data collection on finished goods, including warranty serial numbers, inventory movement, and shipping. The information will be transmitted immediately to Elkay's PeopleSoft system via Intermec hand-held terminals and wireless data networks.

Data Collection Advantage for PeopleSoft provides the integration of bar code data capture and printing for PeopleSoft's applications software. This solution features pre-defined transactions for many of the most common PeopleSoft business processes, and is based on the Windows NT operating system.

Elkay will use Intermec's Antares hand-held computers, 1550 Sabre laser scanners, model 3400 bar code label printers and a wireless network.

DCSI is setting up a pilot program at Elkay's Chicago manufacturing and distribution center. The system is set to roll out to six other Elkay facilities, including Broadview, St. Charles, Lanark and Savannah, Ill., Lumberton, N.C., and Ogden, Utah, late this spring.
