ILS Technology's DeviseWISE 2.0 Delivers OPC-UA Compatability To In-Rack Servers, Intelligent Devices And Enterprise Servers

Boca Raton, FL - ILS Technology LLC, an industry leader in enabling intelligence through connectivity, announced recently that it's deviceWISE 2.0 platform delivers compatibility to OPC-Unified Architecture (OPC-UA) standard. This capability provides the manufacturing industry with the flexibility to implement OPC-UA and enable direct enterprise connectivity, policy and security management features from either embedded controls on the plant floor, rack servers or factory gateways in production environments or IT servers running in the enterprise.

Released in August 2007, OPC-UA standard defines secure, reliable interoperability for exchanging data from the factory floor to the enterprise. With compatibility to OPC-UA, both ILS Technology's deviceWISE Enterprise Edition and deviceWISE Embedded Edition platforms enable connectivity to devices, networks and servers so that access to real-time information can be established quickly and moved seamlessly anywhere within a manufacturing enterprise. This compatibility makes it easy for system integrators, plant floor managers and IT managers to migrate to OPC-UA standard quickly without the need for expensive network overhauls or disruptive technology implementations. The deviceWISE platforms also enable legacy and future-proof connectivity to IT infrastructures and intelligent devices.

"ILS Technology is an early adopter of the OPC-UA standard and has demonstrated its commitment to the OPC Foundation's goals," said Thomas Burke, president of the OPC Foundation. "I am pleased to see that ILS Technology is paving the way for OPC-UA adoption with full support for the standard in both its deviceWISE Embedded and deviceWISE Enterprise editions."

The modularity of deviceWISE and its system-independent framework enables enterprises of all sizes to quickly and seamlessly adopt and adapt to new standards and technologies. As one of the first commercially-available products to achieve OPC-UA compliance, deviseWISE will offer an easy migration path to a standard that promises rapid adoption by many industries. Furthermore, deviceWISE's policy and security management features, which enable administrators to set restrictions on user access based on a set of default policies and access levels, make it the ideal solution for implementing or migrating to OPC-UA.

"We expect many industries to adopt the OPC-UA standard for data access connectivity in industrial control, automation and enterprise domains," said John Keever, executive vice president and CTO for ILS Technology. "By implementing deviseWISE technology in logic controllers, edge devices and enterprise servers, equipment vendors and system integrators can achieve backwards compatibility to a customer's existing production tools while ensuring future connectivity to devices utilizing this emerging standard. The deviseWISE platforms provide intelligent devices and industry-standard servers an easy migration path to OPC-UA and eliminates expensive re-tooling measures or software upgrades. Clearly, the investment protection, flexibility and industry adoption of deviceWISE provides an elegant solution for both IT constituents and the plant operations constituents."

"Industrial automation trends toward interoperability and decentralization are driving the adoption of the OPC Foundation's Unified Architecture," said Craig Resnick, research director at ARC Advisory Group. "The OPC-UA compatibility in ILS Technology's deviceWISE platforms help manufacturers employ universal, standardized and interoperable solutions, which provide a uniform protocol for transparency, integration and connectivity of all data and functions from the plant floor to the enterprise. As OPC-UA emerges as the new standard to help companies achieve their integration goals, deviseWISE platforms from ILS Technology are well-positioned to help early adopters."

ILS Technology's deviceWISE connectivity platforms enable seamless communication between intelligent devices and the enterprise, providing businesses with a detailed view of their production environment and the ability to monitor and respond to operational issues in real-time. The modular framework of deviceWISE facilitates integration with existing vendor equipment and improves communications between intelligent devices and IT applications. The platforms link logic controllers, RFID readers and other such enabled intelligent devices in a network to send and receive data with both upstream and peer systems supporting numerous enterprise messaging and broker systems, web service SOA platforms, and many relational database server offerings including Oracle, IBM DB2, Microsoft SQL Server, Sybase.
