IAM/Straight Talk From Plant Management On Plant's Future Seals New Deal With Machinists

North Bay, ON (Marketwired) - It only took some honest straight talk about the state of the Mining Industry in Canada to achieve a new collective agreement between the IAM and Boart Long Year. Plant Manager Derek Donofrio explained the current state of the mining sector to the members of IAM Local Lodge 2412 bargaining committee. "As soon as he said the Company has no intention of closing the plant, the deal was more or less done," explained IAM Grand Lodge Representative Gary Hynes.

"It's the difference between night and day. He knows there may be some rough patches ahead but he wants to work through them together with us," said Hynes. "There's a new attitude toward the employees and this will go a long way toward mending relations that were damaged almost to the point of no repair."

The parties had some good discussions at the table about the need to consider new ways of doing work in the future that will require joint discussion and the mutual exchange of ideas in the future.

The new three-year agreement provides Lump sum. Other agreement highlights include:

• Improved Vision care hearing aid
• Improved Seniority,Recall
• Improved contract language

"My intention is to create a positive work environment and provide job security for our employees and I think this agreement helps solidify everything that we've done over my first two years," said Donofrio. "It's a great day at Boart."

The 153 members manufacture drilling equipment and performance tooling for the North American mining industry.
