Honeywell Hi-Spec Solutions Launches 'Net Community to Bring Solutions to the Process Industries

Honeywell Hi-Spec Solutions (Phoenix) launched www.myplant.com as a single-source Internet community for software and knowledge-based plant solutions to the process manufacturing industries.

MyPlant.com is designed to serve the needs of professionals in the refining, petrochemicals, oil and gas, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, pulp and paper, minerals processing, power generation and other process industries. The initial focus of MyPlant.com is software and knowledge-based solutions in a variety of technical domains.

By connecting buyers and sellers in the process industries, MyPlant.com makes a range of solutions from leading academics, consultants, equipment vendors and other providers directly available to process industry engineers for problem resolution in their operating facilities.

In addition to providing a community to bring buyers and sellers together, MyPlant.com can be used as an integral part of problem resolution since it includes the technologies necessary for transport and management of highly confidential process operating data in transactions between customers and solution providers.

Honeywell Hi-Spec positions MyPlant.com as delivering value beyond that of simply being an intermediary between parties. The company says it significantly enhances the value of the Internet to process manufacturing facilities worldwide.

"MyPlant.com fills a void in the industry today, and helps bring the power of the Internet to the process industries in a way that is acceptable to their standards and concerns," says Russel McMeekin, VP of Honeywell's Hi-Spec Solutions business unit. "[Many of our customers] are looking for an easier, faster way of discovering solution providers that can help to complete technology projects successfully without sacrificing desired benefits. This is the goal of MyPlant.com."

McMeekin is also planning for a continued expansion of providers as this new community takes root on the Internet.

On-site plant personnel can apply Internet-based advanced technologies from My.Plant.com directly to solve plant problems in real time. No longer do all problems mandate the use of the traditional, time-consuming vendor selection process, since many Web-based technologies allow direct evaluation via free trial period and subsequent incremental, use-based application fees.

In addition, MyPlant.com can help deliver enhanced post-project support. Remote experts supplement on-site personnel, creating a virtual team that delivers continued application benefit.

"There are numerous examples of how customers have started to use the Internet to improve process operations," said McMeekin. "One North American refinery recently used a MyPlant.com Internet solution to analyze 100 PID controllers and recommend corrective action. Via the Internet, the refinery downloaded Loop Scout, a MyPlant.com solution from Hi-Spec Solutions, and was able to improve controller tuning in just two weeks time from start to finish."

New solution providers can join the MyPlant.com community at no cost. Utilities to provide enhanced Internet service capabilities are available as optional tools. There is also no cost for users to join or visit MyPlant.com. Extensive personalization features allow tailoring of the site to meet individual needs by industry or technology interest.
