Georgia Gulf Completes Expansion Of Building Products Plant In Southeast
Atlanta, GA - Georgia Gulf Corporation recently announced that it has completed a 250,000 square foot expansion to Royal Group's building and home improvement manufacturing plant in Bristol, Tennessee, which will enable greater penetration of the growing Southeastern marketplace. The plant expansion brings the total extrusion manufacturing footprint in Bristol to 400,000 square feet. The Bristol facility will continue to produce Royal Mouldings' extensive line of cellular PVC decorative trim products and Royal Trim Boards, as well as commence production of rigid PVC window and door profiles. Production is scheduled to commence in the expanded portion of the facility within the next 45 days.
The Bristol facility was designed to accommodate the leading-edge PVC compound and extrusion technology, which Georgia Gulf and Royal Group management have worked together to develop. It is located in close proximity to Georgia Gulf's PVC resin and compound facilities situated in the Southeast, thereby facilitating on-going efficient technology exchange. Georgia Gulf acquired Royal Group in October of 2006.
Over the past few months, the Company has successfully introduced a system of rigid PVC window profiles specifically designed to create a window system that will withstand wind impact in the wind prone areas of the Southeastern USA. This window profile system, known as the Royal Guard window profile system, has attracted a series of new window fabricator customers, who will be served from the Bristol facility.
On May 7th, Georgia Gulf announced the creation of several new management positions within its building and home improvement product operations, including President of Sales and Marketing for window and door profiles, decorative mouldings, trim boards and coatings product lines. In the May 7th news release, the Company noted that the new position would help it to sell a wider product offering to its customer base. One of the bundled offerings will be the cellular PVC extrusions and rigid PVC extrusions produced in the Bristol plant, which will combine to form a hybrid window profile system, that more readily simulates the look and feel of wood. Georgia Gulf will increasingly combine extrusion of complementary products within its building and home improvement product plants, to facilitate superior service and an advantaged offering for its customers.
Commenting on the expansion, Ed Schmitt, Georgia Gulf's Chairman, President and CEO noted that, "it is strategically located to serve our expanding customer base in the Southeast, Mid-Atlantic and South-Central segments of the USA marketplace. We now have the plant, the products and the people we need to participate in the growing market for durable, low-maintenance PVC building and home improvement products in the Southern USA," concluded Mr. Schmitt.
