FuelCheck® Pipeline Interface Detection

Source: Piedmont Automation, Inc.
FuelCheck® is a highly reliable, low cost, pipeline interface detection system
FuelCheck® is a highly reliable, low cost, pipeline interface detection system capable of sensing changes as slight as differing grades of gasoline or diesel. Completely fiber-optic, FuelCheck® is easily installed through a full-opening valve on any pipeline.
The completely fiberoptic FuelCheck® sensor identifies fluids by their refractive index. The sensor contains no moving parts or reactive chemicals, and responds instantaneously to a change in fluids.
FuelCheck® is ready for installation right out of the box, and consists of a ½" OD stainless steel probe which is inserted through a ball valve into the pipeline. A fiber-optic cable connects the probe to the controller, usually located in a control room. The controller converts the optical output from the probe into a standard 4-20 mA current signal which is interfaced with the client's SCADA system.
BENEFITS
  • Easily installed
  • Low maintenance
  • Inherently safe fiberoptic sensors
  • Probe immune to lightning and electromagnetic interference
  • No electricity or signal wiring needed at probe site
  • Superior interface resolution
  • Standard 4-20 mA output
FuelCheck® COMPONENTS
PROBE
  • Fully assembled with 1" MNPT process insertion fitting ready to attach to full-opening access valve and install into pipeline
  • Standard probe length of 24" (48" armored lead), 1" MNPT threads and MTBE re-sistant o-rings
  • Low pressure (<300 psi) insertion handle included
  • Optional high pressure probe insertion tool available (1,500 psi)
  • Range up to 2 km from Controller (all fiberoptic)
CONTROLLER
  • One, two and three probe models
  • Standard 4-20 mA outputs for each probe with individual Zero and Span adjust-ments
  • 24 VDC @ 2A

FEATURES
  • Probe has no moving parts to wear out
  • Probe needs only to be inserted until flush with the ID of the pipe-line, leaving the pipeline accessible for pigging with probe in place
  • If probe becomes fouled, it may be removed in minutes for inspection and cleaning without taking pipeline out of service
  • Easy installation
  • Totally fiberoptic: probe immune to lightning and electromagneti-c interference
