The FibreXpress Network is designed to maximize the communication and interconnect capabilities of ANSI-standard Fibre Channel
The FibreXpress Network is designed to maximize the communication and interconnect capabilities of ANSI-standard Fibre Channel. This makes it suitable for all types of high-speed and high-throughput applications such as mass storage, DSP, radar, sonar, medical scanners, and OCR. The network interface cards (NICs) provide interconnection for a range of bus architectures including PMC, PCI, VME, and Sbus. All comply with proposed ANSI Fibre Channel standard revision 4.3

The cards feature link speeds of 1.0625 Gb/s and up to 1 MB of on-card buffer memory. This makes the cards suited for point-to-point configurations (to interconnect two systems), arbitrated loops and switched configurations. The cards occupy a single slot on the host computer backplane. Three protocol drivers are available for connection versatility.
