FANUC Robotics Introduces Vision Integrator Package

FANUC Robotics North America Inc. announced a PC-based product for robotic vision application development called Vision Integrator Package (VIP) at the 1999 International Robot & Vision Show at Cobo Center in Detroit.

The VIP system combines FANUC Robotics' robotic guidance technology with Cognex Corp.'s (Natick, MA) machine vision software. The package targets assembly, dispensing, machine load/unload, material handling, packaging, inspection and process feedback robotic vision applications.

"The VIP is a system integrator's package providing vision tools and hardware for development of custom robotic vision applications," says Ed Roney, senior product manager with FANUC Robotics (Rochester Hills, MI).

The VIP system operates on a standard PC platform and is connected to the robot controller via a serial interface. It can be used with FANUC R-J2, R-J3 and R-J2 System Mate controllers. VIP is available for all FANUC robot models.

The new vision system is part of the recently announced agreement between FANUC Robotics and Cognex. Under the agreement, Cognex will provide the core machine vision technology for FANUC Robotics' next generation robotic vision systems.
