Explosion Proof Robot Introduced

New KUKA KR 16 EX Robot Safest Available Robot for Explosive Environments

Clinton Township, MI – KUKA Robotics Corporation, a manufacturer of industrial robots, announced the introduction of its new KUKA KR 16 EX robot designed for use in potentially explosive environments. The robot is designed for use in environments such as paint rooms where fine gases, dust or vapors are present and pose a potential explosion risk. The robot, which is EEx certified for explosion protection, is pressurized and sealed making it virtually explosion proof so that it can be used in these inhospitable environments without the worry that the robot would ignite gases, dust and vapors.

"Hazardous industrial environments are a large challenge for manufacturers by increasing labor costs, employee turnover, and worker compensation claims," said Joe Campbell, director of strategic alliances for KUKA Robotics Corporation. "Our customers need to ensure that their manufacturing environment is as safe as possible and the KR 16 EX delivers."

The KUKA KR 16 EX robot is a six axes robot with a payload capacity of 16kg and a reach of 1610mm. The robot is pressurized and sealed so that it meets multiple explosion protection certifications including CE, EX, II, 3, G, EEx, c,nA, IIB, T3, and X. The unit is ideal for painting applications as well as other explosive environments where dust, gas and vapors pose a problem.
