E-Merge Systems Uses Nutrient Reduction Technology To Help New Kent County With Green Initiatives

Richmond, VA, 2011 /PRNewswire/ - E-Merge Systems, Inc., a Richmond based industrial automation solutions provider, has successfully completed an environmentally-friendly expansion project for New Kent County, including provisions for reclaimed water to be supplied to bulk irrigation users, such as local area golf courses.

"This groundbreaking project is in keeping with the Chesapeake Bay Initiative to reduce Nitrogen and Phosphorus being dumped into the Chesapeake Bay," said Inderdeep Huja, founder of E-Merge Systems.

Prior to the launch of the project, New Kent County had two wastewater treatment plants. The assistance of E-Merge, which has worked with New Kent County since 2004, has increased efficiencies that have allowed for the closing of the Chickahominy Sewage Treatment Plant, with the exception of reclaimed water storage, and to pipe the remaining influent to the Parham Landing Plant.

"The Parham Landing Wastewater Treatment Plant does nutrients removal, which in turn improves the sustainability of the Chesapeake Bay. Part of the treated effluent is reclaimed, with a portion sent to the Chickahominy Reclaimed pump station which then provides reclaimed water for irrigation use to multiple golf courses instead of being discharged into the river," said Huja.

In addition to helping keep the Chesapeake Bay clean, operating one sewage treatment plant rather than two will save money for New Kent County. New Kent County estimates that they will be able to save 31% of the former treatment plant's operational costs by closing the plant to all operations, with the exception of reclaimed water for storage.

E-Merge Systems joined New Kent County for a ribbon cutting ceremony on October 20, 2011 at the Parham Landing Wastewater Treatment Plant. Robert "Bobby" Scott, U.S. Representative for Virginia's 3rd congressional district, joined New Kent County officials in celebrating the improvements and efficiencies resulting from the project by E-Merge Systems.
