Open Devicenet Vendor Association, Inc.viceNet Vendor Association (ODVA) has introduced two new products: DeviceNet Detective and DeviceNet Monitor, which are designed to pinpoint and solve problems on the factory floor.

The DeviceNet Detective is a diagnostic and configuration tool that detects and assists in solving network problems by providing a complete listing of all devices on the network, and presenting information about each node, including address, baud rate and messaging attributes.

The Detective also provides information about the network, such as supply voltage and the percentage of traffic load, and can identify faulty nodes on the network. The DeviceNet Detective can be used instantly and can provide information in less than 90 seconds.

The DeviceNet Monitor is a bus-powered device that performs various physical-layer diagnostic tests on DeviceNet networks and only handles physical-layer analysis, not configuration. It can uncover power shortages, monitor voltage level, indicate high or low-voltage conditions, auto-detect bus speeds, check bus traffic and identify group 1-4 messages, and detect and display error frames. The network monitor is passive, does not require a MAC ID, and does not interfere with bus traffic.
