Brek Manufacturing Orders Six MAG Cincinnati HyperMach H4000 5-Axis Horizontal Profilers In Fully Automated CINCRON Cell

CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--MAG Cincinnati and Brek Manufacturing, a Taurus Aerospace Group Company, announced today at the International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS) what may be industry's most significant single order ever for automated five-axis machining technology. One of the world's leading contract producers of complex airframe components, Brek ordered a six-machine cell from MAG Cincinnati built around the new HyperMach™ H4000, engineered to be the world's highest output five-axis horizontal machining platform.

The aerospace machinery arm of MAG Industrial Automation Systems, MAG Cincinnati is introducing the high-velocity H4000 at IMTS. Immediately following the show, the display machine will be installed at Brek's Gardena, California, manufacturing complex for operational start-up in January 2009. Five H4000s will follow in scheduled ramp-up from MAG Cincinnati's Hebron, KY, plant and be integrated into a MAG Cincinnati CINCRON® cell providing automated material handling.

"The six-machine sale advances Brek's long-term business strategy of investing in the latest technology to supply highest quality components, at lower costs and with faster delivery," said Jon Stannard, President and Chief Executive Officer of Brek. "This cell gives us a compelling edge in meeting the aerospace industry's requirements for reduced assembly times and accelerated deliveries," he added.

"The new HyperMach H4000 is truly a game-changer for large aluminum parts processing in an extremely high throughput cellular environment," said Dan Janka, President of MAG Americas. "The HyperMach cell will give Brek the industry's most efficient and automated system for aerospace parts production, along with best labor utilization."

The H4000 features high-power simultaneous 5-axis contouring, full-portal construction, fully enclosed cutting zone, breakthrough ergonomics and a wide range of machine configurations and material handling options. The design adapts proven modular components from MAG Cincinnati's advanced HyperMach five-axis vertical profiler family, which is optimized for ultra-high-speed, high-precision machining of oversized aluminum plate and forgings, according to Janka.

Brek was the first purchaser of a HyperMach vertical, a single-spindle machine in June, 2002. It ordered a two-spindle HyperMach in 2006. Brek followed in 2007 with orders for another two-spindle HyperMach, as well as a four-spindle High Performance Gantry Profiler.

"Our experience with the HyperMach verticals proved MAG Cincinnati to be the ideal partner for a capital investment of this magnitude," said Stannard.

The new six-machine order covers three H4000s with 30,000 rpm 60 kW HSK63A spindles and three with 20,000 rpm 85 kW HSK100A spindles. "Both models bring serious power to high-volume metal removal, while enabling best matching of spindle speed and tool size to part requirements," said Janka.

The six-machine H4000 cell will bring the number of MAG Cincinnati machines operating at Brek's Gardena, CA facilities to 31, 28 of them five-axis machines. The concentration on five-axis machining has allowed Brek to develop specialized capabilities in monolithic machining — producing complex structures to replace former multi-part assemblies.
