Apprion Introduces ION Access Control Application For Enhanced Industrial Security
Wireless, Rugged Technology Provides Access Control to Restricted Areas, Employee Tracking and Helps Industrial Facilities Meet Industry Mandates
Mountain View, CA (Marketwire) - Apprion, the leader in industrial wireless application systems, today unveiled its ION Access Control Application for wirelessly controlling access to specific plant areas and keeping physical track of personnel and contractor staff as they move around industrial facilities. ION Access Control is part of the ION Location Application family and easily integrates with existing tracking and security technology, adding value to infrastructure investment, and providing extra visibility and security to overall operations.
ION Access Control represents a marked improvement over many comparable systems, because it operates wirelessly, avoiding the expense and challenge of running cables throughout a complex facility. The ION Application uses IONite Access Control 125 KHz RFID tags and HID proximity readers to keep real-time records of exactly who is in the facility, what areas they have entered or exited and precisely where they are at all times. This is particularly important during an emergency event.
"Controlling access to sensitive areas and tracking the physical whereabouts and well-being of individual personnel and temporary contractors as they move around a facility are a crucial part of safety and security," said Warren Smith, Apprion's VP of Engineering. "Not only does ION Access Control add one more layer of facility security, but combining it with other safety and security applications such as ION Video, Mustering and Collaboration, facilities will have a comprehensive security and safety system."
The application consists of two main components -- an administrative part, by which personnel are defined for security purposes and assigned a physical tag that gives them access to different parts of the plant; and an operational component that allows for constant tracking, and remote door operations, where necessary.
The administration policies define the rights of individuals to access certain areas at certain times of the day or week. Individuals may be restricted from plant access if it is not their assigned shift, or may be restricted from entering an individual room or area. Personnel are also assigned to departments that allow them to be tracked by group rather than individual.
The operational part of the system facilitates overall monitoring of events such as "access allowed" or "access denied" when a tag is presented at a given point (such as a plant entrance or exit, or the door to a building or room). A regional view offers the ability to move a mouse over a map of the plant and show who has been allowed or denied access over the last hour at any given entry or exit point. The system also allows a remote operator to remotely open a door if needed.
