Air Products Selects AspenTech for Process Design and Optimization Software

Aspen Technology Inc. (Cambridge, Mass.), a provider of supply chain management software and services for the process industries, announced a multi-million dollar agreement with Air Products and Chemicals Inc., a $5 billion industrial gases and chemicals company. The agreement, which closed last quarter, lets Air Products (Allentown, Pa.) use Aspen Technology's modeling software to design industrial gas and chemical plants and optimize the performance of its current investments and facilities.

"Air Products examined what direction we wanted to take in the upcoming years, how to get there and what vendors could help us get to where we wanted to be," says John Pfeiffer, director of research and engineering systems for Air Products. "Aspen Technology was the clear choice to provide us with process design and optimization solutions for the future. AspenTech is a proven supplier to Air Products, and its modeling capabilities and applied math technology are second to none. In addition, AspenTech's strategic direction is aligned with Air Products goals, and its integrated portfolio of products meets our needs."

In both its industrial gases and chemicals divisions, Air Products will be able to use a consistent model created with AspenTech software—including Aspen Plus for steady-state simulation. Additionally, Air Products will use Aspen Dynamics for dynamic simulation and operability analysis, as well as Aspen Custom Modeler for developing custom models of process units—for the full range of engineering analyses.

Aspen Technology and Air Products have been working together for more than eight years, and this recent agreement reinforces and expands that relationship. Air Products has also invested in Aspen Zyqad, which allows teams of engineers to share process data, knowledge and best practices throughout the engineering lifecycle. Polymers Plus, for polymers process modeling, and Batch Plus, for recipe-based modeling, will be applied in the chemical division. All of these products are part of AspenTech's Plantelligence suite of integrated products for the design, management and operation of process manufacturing plants.
