ProConOS OPC Server allows you to use ANY OPC Client software to read and write data to ProConOS
Overview

Have you ever wished that products from different control manufacturers could just connect and begin exchanging data?

Have you ever wanted to use two products only to find out that a driver for them to communicate is not available?

Are you tired of everything being proprietary so you're forced to use products from one control vendor if you want them to communicate?

The Easy Way to Exchange Data With MMI/SCADA or your VB Program

Connecting ProConOS to a HMI/MMI has never been easier. ProConOS OPC Server allows you to use ANY OPC Client software to read and write data to ProConOS. OPC is an industry standard interface supported by over 100 companies to provide you with instant connectivity to just about any HMI and SCADA software product. Also, since the OPC interface is public you can easily get the information you need to read and write data to and from ProConOS with your Visual Basic program.

How does the ProConOS OPC Server Work?

The ProConOS OPC Server runs on a Windows 95/98/NT PC and communicates to the ProConOS run time engine over TCP/IP or RS232. A client application such as HMI, SCADA, data acquisition, Visual BASIC program, etc., also runs on the PC and exchanges data with the ProConOS OPC Server. The ProConOS OPC Server handles all communications with the ProConOS run time engine so compatibility is guaranteed since KW Software provides both products.

The ProConOS OPC Server can communicate to multiple ProConOS run time engines simultaneously which allows you to access data from multiple controllers over a high-speed TCP/IP network. In fact, multiple OPC Servers can communicate to multiple ProConOS run time engines all over the same network. Also, the ProConOS OPC Server and the ProConOS Windows NT run time version can run on the same PC thus providing you with a plug & play control and HMI/SCADA solution on the same box.

What is OPC?

OLE for Process Control (OPC) is an industry standard communication mechanism for factory and process automation products. Based on Microsoft's Component Object Model (COM), OPC allows products to communicate to each other in a plug-&-play fashion that eliminates the need for custom or proprietary drivers.

The OPC specification defines a both a client and server standard interface which is published and available to everyone. With this standard interface client applications can exchange data and control information with the server. The server takes the information from the client and converts it into the platform specific commands for the control equipment. With almost 200 companies worldwide making products for data acquisition, HMI, SCADA, motion and control, you now have the ability among various suppliers to freely exchange data between products.

The ProConOS OPC Server can communicate to ANY OPC client. This gives you the ability to pick and choose the type of products you want to use with the ProConOS run time engine.
