The LPT6CTM board contains 6 independent 16 bit programmable counters allowing the user substantial flexibility at an extremely economical price. Using two of the well documented 82C54-10 counter timer chips all operating modes are available. An on board 10.000 MHz crystal controlled clock is provided as well as jumper selection of an external clock or the LPTek bus system clock. Each of the six counters have three independent hardware controls available for interfacing with other devices or for on-board cascading for longer counts. Any or all six counters may be cascaded to provide counts of up to 296-1. Alternatively, the counters may be used in any combination of operating modes to count events, generate hardware or software triggered one shot pulses, square wave outputs, and more.
Each of the six counters on the LPT6CTM board have a Gate input, Clock input, and a Counter output made available at 6 independent three pin headers that easily identify each counter. Additionally these control lines as well as clock signals are wired to an on-board DB25 female connector and to a 26 pin header strip allowing a wide variety of embedded and external access. This board supports the LPTek mezzanine bus and up to 16 boards may stacked providing 96 independent counters for complex timing and counting applications. Up to 7 of these boards may be located within LPTek's TMCport.
