PC/ISA Board Delivers Low-Cost Stepper Motion Control with Full Support for Windows OS

ACS-Tech80's Model 5000 controls up to three independent step motor drivers and offers software for complex motion control profiling routines. Each axis provides five control inputs and three outputs including the Pulse/Direction output that allows speeds of up to 240,000 pulses per second. All inputs and outputs are opto-isolated to minimize noise at the card cage and protect the board from transients.

The operation of Model 5000 is controlled by user-accessible internal control registers. Acceleration rate, deceleration rate, ramp-down point, two slew rate velocities, number of steps and start-stop velocity are specified using the board's eight register values. Each motion controller chip enables programmable velocity profiling, including direction. The two programming modes and eight operating modes available provide added flexibility.

Included with the Model 5000 is the "Pro 5000" software program which is designed to facilitate programming of the controller. Stepping routines can be promptly executed by a series of simple commands, while the user can readily specify automatically calculated values needed to accomplish trapezoidal moves.

The 5000 design reflects ACS-Tech80's commitment to open architecture design philosophy. With its industry-standard language support, library-based programming offers far more flexibility for OEM applications and throughput isn't slowed by lengthy ASCII command transfers. Motion-specific function calls enhance standard languages, which enable ease of programming. 16-Bit and 32-bit libraries with C, C++ and Visual Basic examples are provided. Windows NT drivers are available.
