Increasing use is being made of sub-miniature plug-in connectors as per DIN 41652 for telecommunications, data processing, and in control and metrology. Assuming suitable contact between the ground of the unit concerned, the connector, it's shell and the screen of the lead, both good electrical grounding and electromagnetic screening are obtained. The male and female connectors are available in several versions:

•9 pole
•15 pole
•25 pole
•37 pole
•50 pole

With the exception of the 50 pole module, all of the units interface with two-tier PC connector terminals. The 50 pole module interfaces with three-tier connectors. The male and female contacts are stamped, rolled and nickel plated with hard gold plating in the mating region and will carry a current of 1.5A. Machined contacts with higher amperage ratings are available upon request. To ensure a reliable connection through to ground the metal shell is wired to a connecting terminal. Another type of D-sub interface module that interfaces with vertical pluggable type PC connectors is also available.

Another type of common interface is the ribbon-cable interface module as per DIN 41651 or MIL-C-83503 fitted as the interface between electronics and conventional electronics gear. Here, screw terminals are combined with a male ribbon cable connector on a common PC board to form an interface module. Available pole configurations are:

•64 pole

Short or long locking levers, which are provided, prevent the female connector from being shaken loose from the male connector. Misconnection is prevented by ridge and slot keying. The contacts are gold plated in the mating region and tinned in the connecting region and will carry a current load of up to 1A.
