TOYO Sees Dramatic Acceleration In Proposal Development, FEED Projects From ASD OptiPlant

Multi-week cost reduction studies shortened to 2-3 days

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) - Using ASD OptiPlant in a cost reduction exercise for a FEED project, designers at TOYO Engineering Canada rapidly demonstrated plant layout changes and modularization ideas to their client – and provided a delta between the base model and the new designs – in a fraction of the time required with older software technologies.

After developing the base model in OptiPlant, designers were able to make changes in the equipment and pipe rack layout directly in the model in just hours. Changes in the P&IDs to reflect equipment removal or replacement were easily incorporated into the OptiPlant model via Excel files. Thanks to OptiPlant’s automatic pipe routing, which maintains all connectivity, updating the 3D piping design was easy – even though close to 600 pipes were being redesigned and re-routed in each layout change.

With OptiPlant, achieving the required quantity and cost differentials, and incorporating each cost-reduction version into the model, was just a two- to three-day cycle. Developing the original base model took less than three weeks. By contrast, using traditional detail design software tools to carry out such cost reduction exercises typically takes many weeks or even months – plus substantially greater resources.

Mikiya Sakaue, Head of Engineering IT Center, stated, “TOYO Global is going to realize the value of ASD OptiPlant for our proposals and FEED projects. Due to the simple and data-driven modeling capability combined with auto-routing of piping and now electrical items, it is a good practical tool for plot plan case studies, 3D visualization, optimization of the design, and in helping produce material quantities estimation quickly.”

Joe Poletto, Piping Chief and Manager of Project Services for TOYO Canada, shared, “Utilization of ASD’s designers and their OptiPlant tool allowed TOYO Canada to perform the cost reduction activities for our client in a fraction of the time compared with traditional methods.”
