A magnetic sensor designed for non-contact encoder applications is available
Baumer Electric, Ltd.sensor designed for non-contact encoder applications is available. The magnetic encoder generates analog signals that transmit the angular information tracked off of a multi-pole ring magnet. These offset squarewave signals are then fed into an electronic circuit to determine the direction, angle, and speed of rotation. Also used as a length measuring system (by replacing the pole wheel with Baumer Electric, Ltd.band), this encoder is rugged and easy to mount. When used in conjunction with a ring magnet of 18 pole pairs, the sensor can generate up to 1152 ppr. An air gap of up to 0.8 mm between the magnet and the sensor can be utilized without sacrificing system accuracy.
