SCC Solar Energy Group To Provide Engineering, And Program And Construction Management For Silfab Ontario Inc.'s New 180 MW Solar Module Manufacturing Plant

Vancouver, WA (Marketwire) - SCC Solar Energy Group (SCC Solar), a subsidiary of Silicon Chemical Corporation (SCC), has been engaged by Silfab Ontario Inc., a new subsidiary of Italian photovoltaic provider Silfab SpA, to provide program and engineering construction management for Silfab Ontario's new solar module manufacturing plant in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. Silfab announced its plans for this new manufacturing plant last June and has secured a production facility in Mississauga, with plans to start the first phase of production in early 2011.

SCC Solar will collaborate closely with Green to Green Engineering (G2G), a division of Silfab SpA, who developed the production process and equipment specifications for the Mississauga plant. G2G Engineering will handle the module production line design and processes, while SCC Solar will supply the program control and engineering for the construction of the building, utilities, and all other general services for the project.

President and CEO of SCC, Gary Phillips stated, "SCC Solar is pleased to have been chosen by Silfab Ontario as their engineering, and program and construction management provider. SCC and SCC Solar are committed to providing cost effective and sustainable solutions for the manufacture of solar materials." Peter Binn, President of SCC Solar shares Mr. Phillips' sentiments, commenting that, "SCC Solar will work closely with Silfab Ontario to realize their 2012 goal of reaching a total capacity of 180 MW."

The facility's production will mainly focus on Silfab's silicon modules, but it will include production for Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) companies, as well. Silfab SpA's and Silfab Ontario's President and CEO, Franco Traverso sees the new facility as "an invaluable opportunity to export our consolidated photovoltaic experience and know-how in a market that has just begun to unfold."

SCC Solar is committed to fully integrating the various phases of solar energy production to maximize raw materials and energy efficiency while minimizing the impact to the environment.
