BSA ANNOUNCES FIRST 1-INCH PLASTIC NUT IN THE INDUSTRY THAT WITHSTANDS TRADITIONAL BALL SCREW LOADS
CHICAGO, IL, March 15, 1999 - BSA (Ball Screws & Actuators) Inc., pioneer and leader of precision plastic nut and screw products for the linear motion industry, today from the National Design Engineering Show announced the rollout of their 1" ActiveCAM plastic anti-backlash nut assembly. The one-inch size barrier traditionally has been out of limits for anti-backlash plastic nuts because of load requirements, which can reach up to 500 lbs., typical of applications in the machine industry. Today, BSA breaks through the barrier with technologically advanced nut assembly which uses an advanced plastic compound that not only offers zero backlash for the life of the nut, but also at half the cost of a ball screw.
Not all applications call for weight loads of 500 pounds or less, but if your design fits into these parameters, such as tooling and light machining, semiconductor, circuit boards, LCDs medical equipment and pharmaceutical manufacturing, then you should reevaluate your design criteria. According to Standard & Poor's DRI Review of U.S. industry, the majority of all the manufacturing through the year 2009 will be from light to medium manufacturing. Light manufacturing is described as having the load weight of 15 lbs. or less, and medium manufacturing covers the weight lead of up to 500 lbs.
BSA's new XC Series addresses these needs. This plastic nut line incorporates BSA's patented ActiveCAM technology, which utilizes a rigid stainless steel cam that automatically rotates and produces higher axial rigidity without sacrificing life, torque or positional accuracy. The ActiveCAM will automatically compensate for wear and deliver exceptional repeatability throughout the life of the nut. The ActiveCAM design, which replaces older spring loaded nut technologies, produces zero backlash and consistent minimal drag torque up to the rated load capacity of the nut.
"We are breaking the barrier with out new line of plastic nuts," said Greg Traeger, general manager for BSA. "No longer will OEMs have to pay the high price of a preloaded ball screw when they can get an ActiveCAM assembly for half the cost, especially when it maintains the weight load integrity that is needed for their design."
The 1" XC Series assembly has a load capacity up to 500 pounds and is available in thread mounts. The ActiveCAM assemblies are non corrosive because they are made out of stainless steel and plastic. For extreme temperature or special applications, BSA offers custom plastics and complete engineering design capabilities. BSA's special TriCOAT coating is available as an option. This coating increases the life of the assembly by providing a lower and more consistent torque.
